Accreditation

All DoDEA schools are accredited by an outside regional agency, in order to ensure that each school meets expectations for quality programs, staff and facilities.  Bamberg Elementary School is fully accredited by the North Central Association.  Our school improvement plan is an ongoing process.  Parents are an important component in that process.  If you would be willing to volunteer to serve on a committee or assist in individual activities, please contact the office at 469-7616.  Click here to view the DoDEA curriculum content standards.

Program

The curriculum meets all DoDEA requirements and is in compliance with NCA standards.
In addition to the regular classroom structure, these additional programs are available to students: Art, Host Nation (German), Music, Physical Education, Counseling, a German Immersion and two Spanish Immersion classes. Support services include Communication Impaired, English as a Second Language, Learning Impaired, Developmental Pre-School, Sure Start, Read 180, Reading Recovery, Language Arts/Reading (LARS), Literacy Coach, Gifted Education, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.

After-school clubs and extra-curricular activities are offered to students throughout the year, such as:  Homework Clubs, Spelling Bee, Art Club, Music Club, and Athletic Fitness Club. Bamberg Elementary School utilizes the talents and interests of school staff, parents, and community to provide a broad range of extra-curricular activities. The facilities include a well-stocked Information Center and supply room, two state of the arts computer labs, and a recently renovated playground.  Besides being used for Physical Education, the gym also serves as the cafeteria and the venue for artistic performances, assemblies, and community events.

The school reading program is enhanced with Accelerated Reading, which is a system of self paced reading. Students check out books from the library, read them, then take a quiz over the content. This gives them practice reading...and, the more you read the better you are at reading.

Schedule

Bamberg Elementary School’s daily schedule begins at 8:05 and ends at 14:35.  Classes are generally taught in blocks of forty-five to sixty minutes. Students receive forty minutes a day of special instruction in one of the following curricular areas: Art, Music, PE, and Host Nation.  The students receive a twenty-five minute lunch and twenty-five minute recess following lunch.

The school uses the acronym “The 3 R’s” as its tool for proper behavior. The letters stand for:

READY
RESPONSIBILITY
RESPECTFUL

School Improvement Goals 2007-2008

  • All students will improve problem-solving skills across the curriculum.

  • All students will improve communication skills across the curriculum.

Essence of the Goals

  • We want our students to be able to solve problems independently and cooperatively in a variety of  learning situations.

  • We want our students to be able to express their thoughts in writing.

Parent Conferences

Conferences for all students are scheduled the week following the end of the first marking period (see calendar). Conferences are also held for 2nd and 3rd quarter progress reporting. You are encouraged, though, to request a conference whenever you wish to review your child's progress, or any time a question or problem arises (the teacher will do the same). Please send a note to the teacher or call the school office. The teacher will return the call as soon as possible. Conferences cannot be held while the teacher is teaching a class. Conferences should also not be held at public gatherings such as PTA meetings, assemblies or programs or at the commissary or PX. Please help our staff observe these courtesies.

Report Cards (Progress Reports)

The first report cards are given to parents at Parent-Teacher Conferences scheduled in mid-November. Report cards for the second and third quarters are sent home with students the Wednesday after the last day of each quarter. Please sign the report card envelope and return it to your child's teacher. Fourth quarter report cards are sent home with the students the last day of school (no signature/return required). Unsatisfactory student progress is also reported with notices sent home at the mid-point of each marking period.

Honor roll students receive appropriate certificates for their academic achievement.

Reporting to parents on the progress of their children is one of the most demanding duties educators have. The following points should be kept in mind when evaluation your child's report cards:

1. Goals should be realistic. All parents want from their children the best work they can produce. Each child is an individual and will progress at rates which are different from others and may change from time to time.

2. Teachers evaluate each child's progress according to the work produced in relation to the child's ability, knowledge and skills.

3. Each child is encouraged to work to his/her full potential at all times.

Should you have any questions pertaining to your child's report card, please ask for a conference with your child's teacher to discuss the matter.
