From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

As we close out this school year, I want to thank the many parents who have remained active in their child’s education. Additionally, my “bouquets of thanks” to the outgoing PTA Board members who have provided awesome activities for our students and families during the year.

If you are leaving Bamberg, I wish you a smooth and pleasant transition to your new location.  I hope that you have enjoyed your stay here and that you feel your child has received a quality education. If you are returning next school year, I look forward to working with you.

Again, thank you all for making this a very successful school year. Have a safe and a fun-filled summer.

A successful end to another school year

In just a few days our students and teachers will conclude another year of learning. I thank all parents who continue to be involved in their child’s educational program.  Without your continuous support our students would not achieve the academic success I see every time I visit a school.

If your students will be here next year, I cannot overemphasize the importance of re-registering your child. If you are sponsoring an arriving family, please ensure they register their children for school immediately.  Most of the registration process can be accomplished online.  Next year’s class assignments, classroom staffing, and facility maintenance allocations are based on student enrollment figures collected through registration.  So please, ensure your child is accounted for.

Again this year, graduation ceremonies will be broadcast via the Internet to parents deployed in support of the Global War on Terror.  Access information for the webcasts is being sent home with those students who have indicated they will have a parent deployed on graduation day.  Families with deployed parents who have not received this information should contact their school principal.

Many of our students will continue their educational experience during the summer months.  The DoDDS-Europe Summer Enrichment program continues to increase in popularity among students and teachers alike.  We will work to provide the program to all applicants, including families that arrive late in the school year.  Thank you for your continuing understanding, support and enthusiasm.

Please remember that learning is a year-round process, not limited to the confines of the school year.  I encourage you to continue expanding your child’s educational experiences during the summer break through reading, discussions of current events, travel, and exploration of your local community.

If your family will be leaving Europe this summer, Bon Voyage, and good luck in your new assignment.  For those who will be returning to the DoDDS-Europe family next year, please consider volunteering, mentoring, and getting involved with the organizations that support our schools.  I wish each of you a safe and enjoyable summer break.

This week, Congress will vote on an amendment to HR 5658, the Defense Authorization Act to improve autism services for military families. Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA) has introduced an amendment to increase the current cost-share program limit for dependant children of military personnel who have been diagnosed with autism from $2,500 to $5,000.

This amendment would greatly improve the lives of the thousands of military children and families impacted by autism. At present, only 160 of 700 children, or 4.37%, receive at or near the maximum coverage level of $2,500.  The children of our men and women in uniform deserve better - as do all families affected by autism.

Contact your representative(s) and urge them to support this bill!   Thank you for your action on this important issue.
