During their presentations the students explained the reasons why they placed the items in the bag. Where the Red Fern Grows For the Love of the Game Tough to Tackle
       

The following were chosen to symbolize the book:

1. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle: ball - character, glasses - character, brain - character, scarf - character, rose - setting

2. Missing May by Cynthia Rylant: scarf - setting, trailer - setting, angel - May's afterlife, 2 earings - whirli gigs, truck - Chevy

3. The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DeCamillo: spoon - represents Roscuor, can of soup - plot, red spool of thread - Despereaux, chain - castle, cauliflower - Miggery Sow

4. Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech: stick - setting, monkey head, picture, sock - plot

5. The Cay by Theodore Taylor: lifeguard shirt - Timothy saving Phillip, water - setting, boat - plot, glasses - Phillip was able to see after becoming blind, cat - Stew Cat

6. Hatchet by Gary Paulson: bulldog - braveness in Brian, lamb - shyness in Brian, stick - fire, leaf - wilderness, hoodie - the only thing to keep Brian warm

7. Journal of Sean Sullivan by William Durbin: black wire - whip, ruler - railroad, truck - train, flashlight - hammer he used to build the railroad

8. For the Love of the Game: basketball - game, shorts - plot, paper Sears Tower - setting, little paper with Nike and a baseball

9. Wrestling: valuables - they're important to the plot, black paper - they're afraid of the dark, ambulance truck - JoBeth always has emergencies

10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling: mirror - moon (setting), stick - wand (plot), book - Hermione Granger, owl - Ron Weasely, glasses - Harry Potter

11. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis: helpmate - plot, flute - character, snow - setting, cheeta - character, tiara - character

12. The Empty Envelope by Ron Roy: envelope - plot, book of stamps - plot, newspaper - setting, comic book - main character
